As long as you don?t take this book too seriously, and as long as you set about reading it in a spirit of fun, you probably won?t be disappointed, and will probably enjoy it. It?s at the most popular end of the popular history scale, and also has no citations or end notes of any kind, which is a bit annoying if you want to see exactly what book any statements of fact have been taken from (though there is a bibliography). Nonetheless, that doesn?t mean it?s trash. It is a bit opinionated, but since it?s not purporting to be a serious, academic or authoritative work, that somehow didn?t bother me. (Nor was I overly bothered by the occasional minor factual errors, which, in a book of 500 pages, were not of an excessive number.) It?s simply what the subtitle says: ?A juicy journey through nine centuries of dynasty, destiny, and desire.?
