Without a literal and correct translation of the poet's ideas, the effect of the music is lost - as the music was composed to the words, and not the words to the music. The public, therefore, and par ticularly those who have seen the Opera abroad, will be enabled to judge whether his efforts have been crowned with success; their approval and approbation will be his greatest reward.
