A wonderfully presented work in original publisher's cloth binding, with a price-clipped Dust Wrapper. Dated from editions held at the University of Aberystwyth. A beautifully illustrated work containing many of Lear's nonsensical songs. Lear was well-known for his take on Victorian nonsense verse, in particular his poem The Owl and the Pussycat, which is included in this work. Leonard Leslie Brooke was a British artist and writer of the time. He is known for his enchanting watercolour drawings and humourous pen-and-ink line illustrations, some of which are present in this work. With 14 colour plates and many other black and white vignettes. Collated, complete. In publisher's original cloth binding and price-clipped Dust Wrapper. Externally, excellent with just minor shelf wear. Light bumping to tail of spine. Dust Wrapper in very good condition, with age toning and slight sunning. Some slight edge wear to the extremities of the wrap and the occasional tide mark. Offsetting to the wrap, mainly to the inside. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Near Fine.

Undated, dated from Jisc from a copy held at the British Library. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart, with light rubbing to the extremities, and minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Hinges are a little strained, front hinge more so. Prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Dust wrapper has been amateurly repaired with plain paper replacing most of the backstrip. Wear to the extremities of the wraps, with loss of paper, and many tape repairs, including repairs to the reverse. Some light marks to the dust wrapper. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with a few light handling marks. Tape repair to the gutter of a few pages, including to the title page. One plate is detached but present, as are the front endpaper, half-title, and frontispiece. Good.
