The Original "Greek" revealed
The original Nick the Greeks story revealed by his long time friend Henry Mark Petrakis. Petrakis also reveals his wonderful gift for the narrative. A nice find if you're looking for palatable authors. Nick's Journey begins in Greece where he is entrusted with the hopes and dreams of his godfather and uncle, who rely on him to go to Chicago & establish a fig importing business. Apparently not suited for the import business, Nicks proclivity for gambling soon derails his duty. Enboldened by a huge, but inadvertent win at the craps table, which reveals his lust for gambling, he seeks further glory and adventure at a high roller poker game, his frailties are revealed and he loses the stake entrusted to him to establish the business. Humbled and humiliated, he seeks the help of an older legendary gambler named Nestor. After a lengthy tutelage in the many aspects of gambling Nick begins his rise to glory & fame, interspersed with humbling losses, love, and wanderings. Nick's tale is divulged. A fine book ! Petrakis's gift makes the tale most enjoyable. Now I know the origin of the "Greek" mystique and why his name is so often imitated.
