Not illustrated. 1728 Excerpt: ...to the Smell and Eye, be the Inhabitants and only Possessors of Borders in general; and that the others which are contain'd in this Section, or the greatest Part thereof, be the Inhabitants of the inward Parts of an open Wilderness, &c. planted promiscuously in the Quarters thereof; but not in regular Lines, as has been the common Way: But, on the contrary, in little Thickets, or Clusters, seemingly without any other Order than what Nature directed, which, of all others, is the most beautiful. N. B. That in the Disposition of these Clusters of Flowers, Care must be taken to mix the several Sorts in such a Manner, as for every Part to be equally adorn'd throughout the whole Year. Perhaps Perhaps it might be expected here, that 1 should demonstrate the Culture of Flowers in general; which I have here omitted, because I shall communicate that in another Volume; wherein I shall not only demonstrate the true and genuine Practice thereof, but also the several great Errors of many late Authors. Together with a Parallel of the Theorical or Paper Botanist, with the Practical and Experienc'd Planter and Gardiner. SECT. XXIV; Of the several Sorts of Flowers proper to adorn Chimneys, &c. during the Seasons of Spring, Summer, and Autumn, HAVING, in the several Parts of this Work, demonstrated the true Practice of Ordering Fruit and Forest-Trees, Ever-Greens, and Flowering-Shrubs; with proper Directions for the several Sorts of Flowers to adorn a beautiful Garden, &c. I shall now lay down exact Rules for the Adorning the Chimneys of Halls, Chambers, &c. with such fragrant Flowers as are most suitable, viz. Truly Innocent, Beautiful, and Pleasant.
