They are members of the Produce Exchange, and are big traders in rice for milling purposes. Their mill is one of the largest and best equipped here. It has modern machinery and capacity to clean 500 Sucks everv twentv-four hours. Two Sugar Refineries located here are, as the following account shows, both large affairs: The Louisiana Sugar Refinery is a mammoth establishment with a magnificent apparatus and the best modern appliances. Its daily capacitv is 350,000 pounds. This refinerv gives emplovment to nearly 200 men within doors, in addition to numbers of draymen, coopers and others outside who are benefitted bv the business. THE ENTERPRISE RICE MILLS. The Planters' Sugar Refining Co., Corner of St. Louis and Decatur streets.--As the largest refinery in this sugar-producing state; as an institution wholly owned and conducted by New Orleans parties; as a concern having trade with all parts of the world and that is represented in all the large cities of the country, this establishment could hardly be passed over, without remark, in connection with the topics discussed in this work. Its President, John Barkley, is of John Barkley & Co., sugar factors, whose position in that trade has been notable for years. Secretary Lelong is senior member of the firm of A. A. Lelong & Bros., equally well known merchants of the city. The Planteis' Refinerv covers an entire square at St. Louis and Decatur streets. Its equipment includes the largest boiling and vacuum pans in Louisiana....
