Jodice, who has a cool tone and a fluent style, often takes solo honors, sounding a bit like Grant Green. However, a close listen to the music shows that Ghose is the one holding the group together. His ensemble work is flawless, his solos match Jodice's, and he contributed all but two of the compositions on this set. While some of the music is post-bop, the band also shows that it can swing with enthusiasm on the conventional but highly appealing "Zeal."
