This book is the result of NETWORKS '89, the fourth in a series of triennial symposia, which offer network planners and telecommunications experts a forum for the analysis of the most relevant issues. The 55 research papers collected here show that it will not be an easy task to plan such networks, especially when the objectives of minimum cost and subscriber satisfaction are taken into account. This is the challenge now faced by network planners, and this is the reason for this book.
