Very Good. 8vo. 251pp, bw & col ills, map. Pictorial card. Near new. In 1913 Sverre Berg left Norway to get experience in shipping offices in Glasgow and Nantes. While in Glasgow war broke out and he describes the devastating effect of U-boats and surface raiders on ship owners and the course of the war. He was appointed to Hong Kong, traversing Russia by train just before Russia's first revolution. He spent the next 24 years in Hong Kong, for a time he was the Norwegian Consul. It came to an end in 1941 when he was wounded while defending a six inch gun at Port Stanley with the Royal Hong Kong Volunteers and became a prisoner of war.
