Seller's Description:
Good. No dust jacket. Signed by previous owner. HARDCOVER CONDITION GOOD-William Morrow & Company, New York, 1956. First Edition (William Morrow=NAP). Written by Elizabeth Stevenson Ives and Hildegard Dolson. Signed by Adlai Stevenson's sister... 308 p., [2] leaves of plates: geneal. table, port.; 22 cm. Includes: Portraits, Plates, Genealogical tables. William Morrow & Company, New York, 1956. (William Morrow=NAP). Written by Elizabeth Stevenson Ives and Hildegard Dolson. Signed by Adlai Stevenson's sister Elizabeth Stevenson Ives. People who are nominated to be a candidate for the presidency and lose, even twice, are not long remembered. But once upon a time Adlai Stevenson was a revered figure in the Democratic Party, running twice for the Presidency, in 1952 and 1956, against Dwight D. Eisenhower. This is a biography and remembrance written by his sister, who has signed (not inscribed) the book. The book came from the collection of Ralph G. Martin who was a very successful biographer, as well as, I believe, a member of the Stevenson's campaign staff in 1952. While he placed a personal bookplate in several of the other books he owned (and I have up for sale), he did not do so with this book.
