Unfortunately, there have been many efforts by other authors and contributors to "improve" on Fischer's work by converting the text into algebraic notation and then correcting what they thought were mistakes in analysis. It turned out that what they thought were mistakes by Fischer were mistakes by themselves. Fischer's analysis was correct. Theirs was wrong. As a result, Fischer famously went on the radio to denounce those who claimed to have improved on his work. Even since his death, new editions have come out promising that there have been no changes from the original, but researchers have discovered hundreds of changes in the new editions that supposedly contain no changes. The book in your hands contains no changes at all on the inside of this book. Even a typo on the first page has been preserved.

My main complaint with this title, as written in this particular edition, is that the notation is very different from what most of us up & comers are used to. I had to go to Wikipedia and print off a chart converting Fischer's descriptive notation into algebraic notation. The commentary is good though. With a computer and PGN files you can follow each of his games (not the NUMEROUS variations he gives) so with some patience this can be a very useful title. I, however, haven't opened mine since the first couple days I had it. There are much more current and useful compendiums of chess knowledge nowadays - as well as more current versions of THIS work - to choose from. There has been some controversy over newer editions of this book, so research before you buy - like I should have done.

Bobby's Rise through 1967
The chess of Bobby Fischer for all practical purposes ended in the summer of 1972. My 60 Memorable Games traces the chess history of the future champion from his first stages in tournaments, winning the US Championship, gaining the GM title, playing in interzonals until his retreat in 1968. Two years later the American emerges to tackle the world and rises to the top. This prelude to the world championship of chess is an instructive and well written document on the thoughts and strategy of Bobby Fischer with introductions to the games by Larry Evans. Each game is full of lessons and excitement as the most dynamic chess player of the last century battles the rest of the world on his way to what was to later become his domination of the world championship. These 60 games are the essence of the champion even more than the games that later followed in the world championship cycle.
