Lute Made Easy
Practical book with some good points. I discovered this book from other derivative sources while trying to learn how to play a ten course (19 string) renaissance lute. For instance Diana Poulson refers to it in her published study. All copies were up to 200 dollars and this was listed quite reasonably, a copy from Kent University, so I chalk it up as quite a find. Thank-you Alibis! The book provides some basic technique points and how to read tablature. The tuning section was not too clear and I found better instruction on Wikipedia believe it or not. Tunings varied during those times anyway. I have not finished the book but it is such a charming source to have. It has some tunes in the back of it for playing. Lute instructors are not that available and when one has to self instruct this book provides quite a bit, presented in a way that is reminiscent of earlier times. (The front section covers church music and the last section covers viola playing so not all is for the Lute.)
