It's no wonder why such highly regarded artists as the Chemical Brothers and Autechre have expressed the utmost of reverence for Renegade Soundwave. Although it includes none of Danny Briottet and AJ's own music, the duo's impeccable mix set Music for All Persuasions can serve any number of purposes for any number of listeners, depending on their inclinations: It can be an all-night rave party or a top-notch electronica compilation (and, incidentally, proof that the form has just as much variety as any other genre), a nearly flawless musical collage or a frenzied psychedelic trip that can bring a blush to the cheeks. The songs were all mixed and matched from the back catalog of 10 Kilo Records, and, aside from giving the duo ideal fodder for manipulation, each is quite recommendable on its own merits. From the streetwise big beat dub of PFN ("Stitch Up" and "Earphones") and Waveform's "Proteus 4" to the tensive electro-rock of Freakazoids' "Freak and Hustle" remix and the dark urbanity of Layo & Bushwacka!'s "Phantom," through breakbeat workouts, dense and apocalyptic house (Rennie Pilgrem), and paranoid trance (both versions of Undergram's "Anagram"), the pleasures to be gleaned from the collection are many and invigorating, if you are anywhere near a dancefloor, of course, but also if you have a particularly good set of headphones, whether at home or on the trek through any cityscape. Music for All Persuasions is best experienced as an addendum to Renegade Soundwave's own incomparable discography of original music, but it's a sensational album any way you play it. ~ Stanton Swihart, Rovi
