Sir John Wheeler Wheeler-Bennett (October 13, 1902 in Keston, Kent December 9, 1975 in London) was a conservative English historian of German and diplomatic history, and the official biographer of King George VI. He was very well known in his lifetime, and his interpretation of the role of the German Army influenced a number of British historians. In the 1920s he worked as an aide to British Major-General Sir Neill Malcolm in the Middle East and Berlin. After leaving Malcolm's employ, Wheeler-Bennett served in the publicity department of the League of Nations in 1923 1924 in Geneva. Afterwards, Wheeler-Bennett worked as the director of the Royal Institute of International Affairs' information department. In particular, Wheeler-Bennett lived in Germany in 1927 1934 and witnessed first-hand the rise of Nazi Germany. After the Second World War, Wheeler-Bennett was a critic of Appeasement, and 10 years after the Munich Agreement wrote a book condemning it.
