Carl Schuricht, who was born in 1880 in Danzig (now Gdansk, Poland), worked frequently until his death in 1967. He conducted the Dresden Philharmonic during World War II but took Swiss citizenship in 1944. Though he is not as well known as other German conductors active during the 1950s, his recorded legacy is noteworthy: it is among the most extensive of any conductor who trained in the era of Mahler and Bruckner.
