The two Mozart masses recorded here are both unfinished works, perhaps for that reason attracting an unusually wide variety of interpretation and speculation after the fact. Corboz cultivates a slender, natural sound from his young singers, and it makes a most unusual contrast with the high-powered soloists involved in these recordings -- among others, Swiss soprano Audrey Michael is in especially fine voice here in the Mass in C minor, K. 427, and Ewa Podles appears in the Requiem, K. 626. The interpretations of Mozart heard here are careful and detailed, sacrificing emotional intensity for unusual contrasts and lightness of line.
