His most bizarre move here is to insert a newly commissioned contemporary piece, Swiss composer Denis Schuler's atonal In-between for string quartet, orchestra, and percussion, in between two excerpts from Mozart's incidental music to Thamos, König in Ägypten, K. 345. Greilsammer writes that this work "is intended to serve as a mirror that sheds light on the past," although it is not clear why the interruption of Mozart's music is necessary for this purpose.
