The similarities between the works should be noted, particularly the shared key of E flat major, the instrumentation of oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon, and piano, the three-movement form, and the concertante style of the piano part, all of which show that Beethoven looked to Mozart's work as a model. Yet Beethoven clearly used the earlier work as a jumping off point, and while his quintet could be viewed as a tribute to Mozart, its character is distinctly bolder and more dynamic than the elegant K. 452.
