A young Englishman with marginal prospects for the future, Christian Jennings did not know what to expect when he arrived in Boulogne, drunk and penniless, to join the French Foreign Legion. What he found was not the romance of Beau Geste, but a harsh, often cruel, and inevitably comical army of criminals, misfits, and mercenaries.

Read this book in 1 day. It is pleasantly long, with great details and VERY funny parts. The book goes deeply into every day life in the foreign legion, but unfortunatley, it is a bit dated as most of the action takes place in the early 1990's. It is an eye opening book into the horrors and the pain of everyday life in the legion. A lot of REALLY good dialogue and the small side stories are the best part of the book. I highly recommend this book!
