Fruit characters like length, diameter, weight and colour were studied. The highest fruit weight and length was found in Jahangir and lowest fruit weight was recorded in Sopari. A colour variation in fruits was also seen among the varieties. The present investigation has established that the morphological characters can be used as a tool for the taxonomic discrimination of varieties of Mangifera indica. Three artificial synoptic keys to the varieties were formulated, on the basis of the morphological characters of leaf, inflorescence and fruits.
