Each chapter begins with a quote from the participants concerning their experience, adding personal insight to otherwise very academic material. The chapters also include a literature review as well as a comprehensive look at a particular issue as it is reflected amongst Kenya's diverse cultural groups. Where appropriate, the chapters include case studies, maps, tables, and photographs to further illustrate the major ideas presented.
