Miss Julia is a traditional Southern Lady and always sets high standards for herself and others. She has a generous and loving heart underneath her rigid exterior and is often very humorous in her attempts to solve mysteries and get things done. In 'Miss Julia Strikes Back', she sets off for Florida with Etta Mae Wiggins to retrieve some stolen jewelry -- including her treasured engagement and wedding rings from Sam. Their escapades made me laugh out loud. I love the 'Miss Julia' books and always look forward to her next adventure.

Miracles in Palm Beach
What could be worse than feeling deserted by your new husband (who's off on a tour of Russia) and adopted "family"? Having a party to relieve your depression and finding out that someone is mean enough to use it as an opportunity to rob you of your most precious possession, that's what! Miss Julia is shocked to discover that such an evil person lurks in her small hometown and has had the audacity to take advantage of her! Not one to take such things lightly, Miss Julia sets out to recover her unique engagement ring (oh, and Hazel Marie's jewelry too, of course) before the thieves have the chance to sell it. When Sergeant Coleman helpfully tells Miss Julia that all leads are pointing to a large crime ring centered in Palm Beach, she packs up and heads south, stubbornly refusing to believe that she won't be able to nab the crooks. With a little dubious help of a no-longer-little Lloyd, Etta Mae Wiggins and drunken PI Frank Tuttle plus a LOT of help from above, Miss Julia can't fail. Several long drives, stakeouts, disguises and high speed chases later, even Mr. Tuttle has to acknowledge that Heaven is definitely on Miss Julia's side! Although the story is full of unlikely coincidences and unbelievably lucky chances, the way that they're explained is so perfect. You can't help but smile and acknowledge that, yes, miracles sometimes do happen and sometimes they come in heaps...especially to those who trust in God but aren't afraid to do more than just sit around and pray!
