However, his quest for excellence and equality was always foremost in his character and mind. The influence of his mother and father's families played an important role in shaping his decision to be involved in civil rights of the 60's and 70's. Although athletics allowed him the opportunity to attend college on scholarship he never forgot that standing for what's right eliminates regret.
