Fair. In French. Not ex-lib. Hardcover in smooth brown leather with stamped gilt decorations to spine, title in largely effaced red box, upper spine, no jacket, 16mo. x + 329pp. + notices. Frontis, occasional line drawing portraits throughout. Introductory "avertissement" by A.A.R. Fair to Good. Well rubbed boards along edges and hinges but no peeling or dried out areas; 1/2" x 1/2" section missing from lower spine end revealing underlying backstrip but not page edges/signature title box largely missing; longitudinal crack down mid spine with no peeling or pulling (corresponds to flat opening below) rubbing to spine generally, though gilt present and bright (please see/request scans). Bumped corners. Hinges and binding strong and square but quite stiff, with latter quite stiff; opens flat with separation at pp.166-167 with all holding fine; pages stiff with stress waves; humidity related waves with no associated discoloration or damage; occasional foxing to pages. Strong toning around edges of endpapers with prev. owner's bookplate and handritten v.3 to front pastdown. Additional earlier owner signature in strong hand below upper edge title page.
