Near Fine. No Jacket. Charles Robert Maturin (1782-1824) was an Irish Protestant clergyman, novelist, and playwright. He was a friend of Byron and Scott, and an active participant in the early 19th-century literary fascination with the Gothic. Popular and influential in his day, "Melmoth the Wanderer, " a Faust-tale, is probably his best-known work. "Melmoth" was originally published in 1820; it was popular and influential, but now is rather obscure. Here is a Near Fine copy of a recent scholarly version, edited and with an Introduction by Douglas Grant. First Edition Thus; uncommon to scarce.
