Meadowlarks Matter
When I was growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin 50 years ago, the song of the meadowlark was background music on warm summer days. I hardly ever hear meadowlarks in this area anymore. They are disappearing, and their disappearance is related to changes in farming practices. But what is the song of a meadowlark worth? In his new book, "Meadowlark Economics" (Revised), Professor James Eggert encourages us all to be "meadowlark economists" and says we can have a healthy economy while at the same time preserving habitat for meadowlarks.
Even though I am not Catholic, this book is timely in its message considering Pope Francis's encyclical calling all of us to to what we can to stop global warming. If we do not care for the environment, none of us will have a place to live. If the Earth becomes inhospitable to all life, will anything else really matter?
This book contains 20 essays that will help you strengthen your philosophy on our relationship to the economy and to the environment.
