In the editor's introduction, the broader context of these three texts is described while in his editorial report, the genesis of this revision is demonstrated on a textual basis. German description: In diesem Band der Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe werden die von Max Weber fur seine Gesammelten Aufsatze zur Religionssoziologie uberarbeiteten Aufsatze zum asketischen Protestantismus aus den Jahren 1904 bis 1906 zusammen mit der "Vorbemerkung" in historisch-kritischer Bearbeitung dargeboten. Weber stellte diese Texte an die Spitze dieser Sammlung, die vier Bande umfassen sollte. Aber nur der erste dieser vier Bande wurde von ihm noch zum Druck gegeben und korrigiert. In der "Vorbemerkung" erlautert er seine mit dieser Sammlung verbundene Erkenntnisabsicht. Es gehe ihm hauptsachlich darum, die Eigenart des okzidentalen, insbesondere des modernen okzidentalen Rationalismus zu erkennen und sein Entstehen zu erklaren.
