This is a commentary that is inciteful and useful for preaching. It draws connections between Matthew and the other books of scripture, showing how the Bible assists in interpreting itself. This commentary does not engage in historical-critical analysis, instead seeking to discern how the Gospel of Matthew forms Christian who confess the orthodox/Nicene faith. I find this refreshing, as I have plenty of other commentaries that will question the validity of an individual verse without shedding any light on how to read the passage as a whole. This commentary assists pastors in reading the Bible, and reading it well.
I would recommend this to any pastor whose tradition uses the historic creeds of the church (Nicene and Apostles).
