Or, meme si cette notion a fait l'objet de nombreux commentaires, il n'existe a ce jour aucune etude exhaustive des ecrits leibniziens sur la question, ni meme d'edition fiable de ces textes. Ce volume rassemble en traduction francaise l'ensemble des textes connus sur la mathematique universelle. Certains d'entre eux sont completement inedits et ont fait l'objet, pour la premiere fois, d'une transcription a partir des manuscrits latins dont nous proposons egalement une edition. En resulte une vue nouvelle de la mathesis universalis dans la pensee de Leibniz, et, par voie de consequence, de la place que ce theme tient dans notre modernite philosophique et scientifique. La publication de ces textes est l'occasion de montrer en acte les rapports precis que pouvaient entretenir logique et mathematiques chez Leibniz, bien loin des reconstructions qui en ont ete proposees par extrapolation a partir de l'elaboration des calculs logiques .
