Seller's Description:
256 pp. Octavo. Original blue cloth with silver lettering/decorations. Pictorial endpapers. All edges trimmed and top edge stained blue. Extensively illustrated with black & white photographs of the expedition. Five maps including two page. Signed bookplate on the rear of the front free endpaper. A tight, bright clean copy in a very good plus dustwrapper. Very scarce. Neate F52 Makalu-the fifth tallest mountain in the world (located East of Mount Everest) This is the account of the 1955 French expedition written by the Leader Jean Franco. The expedition made the first, second and third successful ascents of the mountain. This is a translation of the first French edition published in 1955. This is a very special copy of the book having been owned by Peter Boardman with his signed and dated bookplate on the rear of the front free endpaper. Peter Boardman was an English mountaineer and author. He is best known for pioneering difficult, lightweight expeditions to the Himalayas, often in partnership with Joe Tasker. They perished on the North East Ridge of Everest in 1982. The Boardman/Tasker award is named after them. This is a wonderful association copy with books signed by Boardman rarely showing up on the market.
