I've read several chapters of this book and found it to be brilliantly written; it was in keeping with many of the experiences I've had raising my own child.

Classic child development title
Unfortunately, I came across this too late for my own children. But it is a truly helpful view of stages of human development. I ordered copies for my own daughters who have small children. Pearce describes the stages a child needs to pass through and the consequences of aborting any steps along the way. It focuses on the life of the mind as well as the body.
