Alexandra David-Neel approached religion and its practices in Tibet with the objectivity of a sociologist, and yet made it palatable for the arm chair adventurer.

A fascinating book. It takes us to a time now gone, when Tibet was a secluded kingdom with all its heritage and wisdom intact.
The author writes from personal experience about the teachings described in this book.
It is sad however to think that many of the monasteries she visited were destroyed and perhaps some of the teachigs lost forever.

It is a terrific glimpse into Tibet and its religion from a 1920's culture perspective. Some previous background knowledge is helpful for understanding the content. It is a sorrowful reminiscing of what has been lost.
