The all female team at CLAMP doesn't disappoint in their highly acclaimed "Magic Knight Rayearth" series. True, the artwork is thick with flowing penwork (pretty, non-splattering blood and heavily mascaraed eyes, even on the guys), but the characters and the plot are engaging. It starts as a typical RPG plotline: three girls get sucked into a strange, new world and are charged with a mission to rescue the princes of said world. Sounds simple enough. We've got a brooding magician holding the Princess hostage and a host of buxom underlings to throw at the Magic Knights. CLAMP also tosses in their pretty young bishonen, especially in the second installment. If you're already familiar with CLAMP, you'll know the plot isn't really challenging, but finding out what developes for each character keeps the pages turning.
