Seller's Description:
Fine in fine jacket. First edition, first printing. A fine, fresh copy in equally fine, unpriced dust jacket. Hardcover. 376 pp. with bibliography, index. Illustrated with photographs. Scarce biography of silent film legend Mae Murray (1885-1965). Born Marie Adrienne Koenig in New York City, she began her acting and dancing career in 1906 on Broadway with Vernon Castle. She became a Ziegfeld chorus girl, eventually moving up to headliner by 1915 and perfromed in the States as well as Europe. She made her motion picture debut in 1916 and rose to become one of the most populkar and bankable stars in the silents. Her sulty pout earned her the nickname "The Girl With The Bee Stung Lips"--she was everything a movie queen of her day was expected toi be: extravagant, vian, egotistical, and tempermental, her eccentricities making her on eof the most controversial actresses of the generation. Once the talking picture era began, her career essentially came to an end, her final film role coming in 1931.
