Although now little-known in the English-speaking world, he is generally recognized as the most significant etcher of 19th century France. His most famous work is a series of views of Paris. The bookplate design is a stylized rendition of the crest of Catalani, an Italian family noted for their artistic influences. Alfredo Catalani, (1854-1893) was a noted operatic composer, best remembered for his operas Loreley and La Wally. This volume, relevant to various celebrated artists, and of a limited nature will make a fine collection piece. A sturdy copy in very good condition. Ships daily.
