Losing someone dear to you in an unexpected and dreadful manner can be extremely traumatic. It is reasonable to think in the beginning that you will never get over your loss. The feeling of grief is so overwhelming that you can't imagine surviving the loss. Some people will admit that they've never gotten over it. And whenever the anniversary of the death comes around, they feel as if they are reliving the event. So, how does one protect themselves from the never-ending cycle of grieving? While everyone's grief is unique to them, there are some ways to lessen the blows of grieving and regaining one's sense of stability and norm. First, allow yourself to grieve. Take time to wallow in your grief and mourn the person who is no longer in your life. However, try not to step into the abyss of grief to the point where you find it difficult to dig your way out of it. Rely on your resources to help you find your way back into your new norm without your loved one. This may mean turning to GOD for spiritual support, seeking counseling, or turning to family and friends for emotional support. The important thing is to focus on your well-being and ensuring that you become a survivor of grief. Don't become best friends with your grief. Be strong and be of good courage: Deuteronomy 31:6.
