Freda Adams began her storytelling journey at her father's knee early in life. Through him, she absorbed the art of listening, looking, and learning. She mastered the subtle art of twisting the ordinary into a fantastical tale. Growing up in depression-era Houston, Texas she felt no different than her friends and neighbors. She never saw her family as poor or lacking for anything. There was always plenty of fresh food to eat, an abundance of flowers to pick, sisters or friends with whom to play, and plenty of love and laughter to go around. It was only natural for her, when questioned by an adult grandchild, to create a beautiful word picture of how her everyday life had changed from the 1930's through the Covid-19 pandemic. Long Ago and Far Away explores first friendships, family dynamics, holidays and everydays. The stories and sketches within were started shortly after her eighty-eighth birthday and completed just one month before her passing, just shy of her eighty-ninth birthday. The stories and artwork helped to fill the long days of confinement and isolation caused by a historic world-wide pandemic. What began as a simple short story grew into thirty-two delightful essays that will transport you back in time, to a time before television and computer games, before cars and electricity were commonplace. It will take you to a simpler time, to Yesteryear.
