Carolyn Davidson is an author that I enjoy. She has an interesting way of portraying her characters and action usually abounds. However, this book is a stinker. I can find precious few positive things to say about this story. I didn't feel any emotional attachment to either of the main characters or the plot ... and the plot was very thin.
Brace Caulfield (from TEXAS LAWMAN) sends his (former) deputy to take over a ranch that Sarah's under-aged nephew has inherited (Sarah is Brace's wife). James Webster (from OKLAHOMA SWEETHEART) has matured and fits in well at the ranch because he shares the work and does more than his fair share. James/Jamie has been warned by Brace about the current foreman's daughter who seems to be causing problems amongst the men with her flirtations.
When Jamie arrives, he doesn't find any flirting problems; it's all a fizzle. It doesn't take long before Jamie becomes very possessive of Alexis Powers. There really isn't any convincing passion between the couple, just a bit of lust. It seems to be just a story about a guy marrying one of the people on the ranch. Ho hum. There is a matter about a danger to Alexis, but it soon passes from view.
I found this to just be plain dull. A considerable bit of the language seemed hokey and trite.
