Too Many Permutations & Combinations of the "Book"
The textual content is good but access to online support material requires additional fees and, from what I can surmise, access to that support is time limited. I sought out the book because I was enjoying an 'open' course by this author on Yale's website. He continually referred to support material the students could access which wasn't presented in the online course. This book was sold with a 'download' code which I assumed accessed all that supporting material. In fact, it accesses only the recordings played during the course - these come with permanent, not time limited, access. However, throughout the book there are directions to "watch online", "listen to a podcast" or "read interactive text", which are all still unavailable. I tried contacting Cengage, which publishes the book and administers all the support material, in attempt to determine what more I needed, but the rep never returned my call. At well over $100 for the book, I can't afford to make another expensive mistake in trying to choose from their myriad of related offerings. The book content is essentially what is offered in the free online course - I only purchased it because I thought it would provide the 'hidden' material. Definitely not so, and Cengage's lack of response is, IMHO, inexcusable. Since it's a course textbook, they make some small change each year to 'justify' a 'new' edition to 'encourage' students to purchase new, rather than used, books at exorbitant prices! To make the supporting material available only temporarily, and at an addition fee, is unadulterated greed.
