John Barford Lindop has written a couple of books tracing the family history of the Lindop Family. This volume combines both. The very first person to carry the Lindop surname was Robert, who lived in thirteenth century Derbyshire. He was born at Carlton, close to where the cover photograph was taken, the son of Henry de Leyis. But when he married he set up home at Lindop and his descendants take his surname. Lindop no longer exists as a placename but its location is marked by the nearby Lindop Wood, which is seen in the background of this cover. The author traces the family as it moved to Wybunbury, in Cheshire and then through Flintshire. As well as his own branch that set up a draper's business in Chester, he traces the Lindops who were fishmongers in Liverpool and discovers other miscellaneous fragments of the family history.
