Seller's Description:
Not Stated. Very Good. A lovely two volume set concerning the life of the well-known tragic actress Mrs Siddons, in full calf bindings. The first edition of this two volume set in full calf bindings. Bookplate to the front paste down of Volume I. Illustrated with a frontispiece to Volume I. Lacking the half title page to each volume. Thomas Campbell's biography of the master tragediene Sarah Siddons. A prominent actress of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, and at the heart of the emerging celebrity culture of the eighteenth century, William Hazlitt dubbed Siddons as "tragedy personified". This biography was written only a few years after Siddons died. In full calf bindings. Externally smart, with some rubbing to the extremities and the spine and some faint marks to the boards. One of the spine labels to Vol I is lifting. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean except for the odd spot to the pages of Vol II, and some offsetting to the page perimeters of the free end papers and to the leaves surrounding the frontispiece. Very Good.
