O'Reilly (1844-1890) was an early member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood, and was sentenced to penal servitude in Australia; he escaped, and became a prominent voice in the Irish nationalist diaspora. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the First Edition, a posthumous biography issued in the year following Boyle's death. Large octavo, in a maroon pebbled cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine and front cover. Clean text; 790 pages, indexed. Bumped corners and a bit of rub to the foot of the spine. The covers are bright, and this would be quite a nice copy if the gutters had not split, causing the cloth on the spine to be barely hanging on. Please note this condition issue; despite its attractions. Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of restoration or repair. Size: 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall.
