A partir d'une etude historique serree de la notion critique d'humour, il elabore cette derniere en un instrument d'investigation approprie, qui renouvelle l'approche methodologique des textes. La notion d'humour ainsi concue, a l'ecart des rhetoriques ou poetiques figees et dessechantes, se revele d'une efficacite prometteuse pour bien d'autres auteurs et restitue, en attendant, a Jules Renard son indiscutable stature de contemporain capital.
