Seller's Description:
Fine. Book First edition. xiii, 506 pp. Frontis portrait, 16 plates, appendices, bibliography, index. Some light pencil underlining and notes to margins of first fifty pages, light spotting to top edge of text block. A very good copy with lightly worn pictorial dust jacket. The best, most comprehensive and most detailed study of the scientific and technical aspects of the expedition. Includes detailed descriptions of the fauna and flora discovered by Lewis and Clark, with complete scientific summaries of their findings, including animals and plants new to science, topographic features discovered or named, and Indian tribes encountered. Very sought after.
This book was recommended by a friend who is a long-time Lindblad cruise naturalist in the northwest, specializing in Lewis and Clark's scientific observations. This is his favorite book describing their scientific achievements and I agree with him. I would concur with another reviewer that more pictures of objects from the expedition would be nice, but the narrative itself is excellent by itself. A good read.
