his novel with its rich storytelling, quiet style, and thought provoking dialogue added a depth to my already high regard of the Amish culture and its people.
Returning to his Amish roots to attend his Father?s funeral, Will McGruder, the Amish prodigal, remembers the span of his life from the time he originally fled in shame. Beautiful memories of bravery, dedication, responsibility, fear, love, and friendship are described with endearment, focusing the reader to think of their own lives and relationships.
This is a book that you want to savor as it is filled with common sense wisdom but also reveals the man as he travels the years away from his father and then returns home towards the later years of his fathers life. The story is not so much told as unfolded as you read.
It has been said that W. Dale Cramer writes enduring characters and this is true. You are left with the feeling as if you know these people and this family. A great read, I recommend it highly.

Interesting perspective
Most other books that I have read about the Amish people/ways have been written by women. W. Dale Cramer presents insights from the male perspective, thereby enhancing my understanding of this way of life. A realing touching tale about many life experiences and interactions that any of us could be involved with, regardless of our lifestyles.
