Let's Dance: The Best of Ballroom Swing, Lindy, Jitterbug & Jive was designed to cash in on the swing and lounge revival of the '90s by offering a selection of uptempo swing and jump blues songs, along with a choreography and beats-per-minute guide, designed for hip young swingers who want to dance the Lindy, jitterbug, and jive. Despite a few selections that indicate the compilers didn't really understand the idea behind the swing revival -- Joe Jackson's "Jump, Jack, You're Dead" and the Manhattan Transfer are good examples of the revival, while tracks by the Commitments, Aretha Franklin, Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, and James Cotton, Junior Wells, Carey Bell and Billy Branch are simply not suited for this kind of ballroom dancing -- the music is generally first-rate, offering a selection of eight "swing" songs, three Lindy numbers, and five jive blues.
