Inscribed by Herndon on the front fly: "To My dear comrade Kenneth Fitzgerald. Comradely regards, Angelo Herndon May 16, 1937." Fitzgerald was a member of the Communist Party's central and legislative committees and a contributor to *The Daily Worker*, and was named during the HUAC hearings.
