Compare the following biblical statements: --As to the first--" That which may be known of God is manifest among them;.for God hath showed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things which are made, even his eternal power and godhead."--"The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth his handy work. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge," &c. &c. As to the second--" The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us."--"He is the image of the invisible God."--"Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. How shall they believe in him of whom thej have not heard; and how shall they hear without a preacher; and how shall they preach, except they be sent?" In both cases, it roust be evident to every one, who has patience enough to look at that, which may, perhaps, be different from his early impressions, that an exhihition is afforded to the outward senses of men; and that an appeal, with a view to instruction, conviction and intellectual action, ismade under every variety of suitable and appropriate form.
