Seller's Description:
As New in Fine jacket. 4to-over 9¾"-12" tall. 352pp, c.250 illustrations, including 90 plates in full colour. Book new and unread in dark red boards with lighter red lettering on spine. Full-colour dust jacket depicting 'The Penitent St. Peter' 15th century carving from Brabant, has a few dents and score marks on the black back cover. This astonishing book charts the golden age of 15th century Burgundy, ruled by the immensely rich and powerful Dukes of Burgundy in what now comprises the Netherlands, Belgium, much of northern France, Luxemboug and the lower Rhineland. They were great patrons of the arts and the work produced in this period was the wonder and envy of Europe. Published in conjunction with an exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Gent in 1994, the book includes an introductory essay and a catalogue of works in various media, including wood, limestone, alabaster, metal and ivory, illustrated and discussed in a detailed commentary. This is a very heavy book and will need extra postage charges, especially outside the UK.
