Este texto indaga por la política cultural y ambiental de los movimientos indígenas y analiza los procesos de construcción de identidades ecológicas, particularmente aquellas asociadas a la idea de ese nativo ecológico que debe vivir en comunidad y tener una relación cercana y armónica con su entorno para confrontar la crisis ambiental. También desarrolla el caso de las identidades como fruto de la interrelación entre las dinámicas locales, nacionales y transnacionales, particularmente con las políticas neoliberales y el ambientalismo global. El nativo ecológico logra penetrar las situaciones que involucran a los pueblos indígenas y promueve sus acciones dentro de un marco de ideas, una gobernabilidad ambiental global o ecogubernamentalidad, lo cual genera nuevas relaciones de poder articuladas con prácticas, discursos y políticas territoriales, ambientales, participativas y de derechos de propiedad que contradictoriamente, los sitúan de nuevo dentro de relaciones desiguales, similares a las de los procesos coloniales. De esta manera, este texto abre un espacio para reconstruir las diferentes redes, condiciones de surgimiento e implicaciones (políticas, culturales, económicas y sociales) de un evento concreto: la consolidación de una relación entre los pueblos indígenas y el ambientalismo. Asimismo, examina de manera crítica las contradicciones, paradojas y dilemas de esta relación y la consecuente irrupción de nuevos procesos en torno a las representaciones, conocimientos, territorios, autonomías y recursos naturales. El análisis se centra en los movimientos ambientalistas e indígenas en Colombia y en detalle en los pueblos indígenas de la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
